What is the course about? The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business has been designed to help you develop knowledge and understanding of business in real business scenarios. It is suitable for students who have previously studied Business, and new learners to the course. During the course you will develop skills which will help you whether you choose to carry on studying in higher education or enter the world of work. You will learn time management skills from handing in your work by set deadlines. You will learn all about businesses and how they function and it will also develop your ICT skills. The course will improve your ability to research, analyse and present information.

You will cover 4 units of work which include: 3 Core units: • Unit 1 – Exploring Business • Unit 2 – Developing a Marketing Campaign • Unit 3 – Personal and Business finance 1 Specialist Unit: • Unit 8 – Recruitment and Selection Process (The specialist unit is subject to change due to a degree of flexibility and choice). In Year 12 (first year) – you will complete 2 of the core units (Unit 1 and Unit 2). In year 13 (second year) – you will complete the remaining core unit and the specialist unit. The three core units give learners an introduction to and understanding of business activity, management of resources, marketing and communication; all of which are essential in business and when entering the workplace.

The course is fully classroom based. The majority of the course will be internally assessed and feedback will be given to enable students to improve their work and fulfil their potential. The assessment for Unit 1 and 8 will be internally through coursework completion. The assessment for Unit 2 is through a pre-seen marketing challenge. The assessment for Unit 3 will be through external examination.
